ICE Chief Looking into Possibility of Charges for Sanctuary City Leaders

The country’s top immigration enforcement officer says he is looking into charging sanctuary city leaders with violating federal anti-smuggling laws because he is fed up with local officials putting their communities and his officers at risk by releasing illegal immigrants from jail.

The push for a “clean” repeal of Obamacare died Wednesday after Senate Republicans were unable to rally the votes, forcing leaders to turn to watered-down proposals that would repeal only some of the onerous parts of the troubled health care law.

No Endgame Strategy * Senate Conservatives

comments

Senate Conservatives Fund

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell forced a vote to begin debate on Obamacare, but he has no endgame strategy for repeal.

Now that McConnell’s fake repeal plan has been rejected, he may advance a “skinny” repeal plan that only repeals the individual and employer mandates. His goal is to simply get the bill out of the Senate and into a House-Senate conference committee.

But once the bill is in conference, the problem still remains. Moderates still aren’t willing to vote for repeal and conservatives won’t support a giant bailout. So why go through all of the motions?

McConnell wants to avoid a massive voter backlash by making people think Senate Republicans tried to repeal Obamacare even though he is not actually trying to fulfill that promise.

“To protect his conference from the fury of primary challengers, he must convince party potentates that he fought the good fight but just didn’t have the votes,” wrote columnist John Stoehr.

It’s a rigged game that keeps getting played over and over again. McConnell promises conservative policies, pretends to try to enact them, and then moves on to pass liberal policies. Rinse and repeat.

Sooner or later, people are going to see through his “Failure Theater” and call for new leadership.

McConnell could have passed full repeal, but he surrendered at the start. By voicing support for a bipartisan bailout if repeal fails, McConnell encouraged moderates to oppose any repeal plan and hold out for something that is politically safer.

That’s why seven Republicans – Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Susan Collins (R-ME), Dean Heller (R-NV), John McCain (R-AZ), Rob Portman (R-OH), Lamar Alexander (R-TN), and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) – voted against repeal yesterday.

Also, McConnell’s overwhelming financial support for moderate senators in their primaries has made them less accountable to conservative voters in their states.

Why should they support conservative policies when they know that McConnell will spend tens of millions of dollars to defend them against conservative challengers?

Senator Lisa Murkowski is a perfect example. McConnell not only backed her in her 2010 primary, but he also helped her run as an independent after she lost the Republican primary. He let her keep her committee chairmanship after leaving the party so she could use her seniority to defeat the Republican nominee and win re-election.

The only accountability these senators have is what the grassroots provide, and that’s why it is more important than ever for us to work together to drain the swamp.

Thank you for standing strong for freedom and for doing so much to support conservative leadership in Washington.

Sincerely,
Ken Cuccinelli II

Canada: Former mayoral candidate charged with “hate-motivated crime” for criticizing Islam

Rabia Khedr claims that Johnston was “inciting violence” against Muslims, but that doesn’t seem to be true, unless by “inciting violence” Khedr means simply criticizing Islam. Unless he was directly calling for violence, this is evidence that Canada’s “anti-Islamophobia” motion M-103, contrary to promises, is indeed being applied as a binding law, and is not […]

The News Sentinel reports a petition is underway to return the plaque to it’s original location:

Don Wiser, a retired KPD investigator who served for 23 years, fondly recalled the plaque being mounted after the agency moved into the Howard Baker Jr. Boulevard building in 1969.

“I believe in Jesus, and I believe that when they turn their back on Jesus that we’re going to be in bad shape,” Wiser said. “I think that, as wicked as our people are getting, I think that’s the wrong thing to do, to take that off there.”

“Jesus has made a place for us,” he continued. “But Satan’s got a place for you too, and it gets awful hot in his place. I like air conditioning awful well.”

An online petition to keep the plaque that was started early Wednesday had 222 signatures as of 11 a.m.

“What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us then who can be against us?”
Romans 8:31

After nearly a half-century – and one complaint – a plaque displaying a single verse of scripture (quoted above) at the Knoxville Police Department employee entrance will be removed, Mayor Madeline Rogero and Police Chief David Rausch announced at a press conference Monday.

As a consolation, Rogero said in a statement the piece will be moved to a new “Hall of Inspiration” at KPD’s headquarters in the Safety Building, “along with other inspirational writings from a variety of faiths and philosophers.”

In her prepared remarks, Mayor Rogero said, “We are not aware of any complaints or issues raised in recent history by KPD staff or members of the public. It has become part of KPD tradition, providing strength and comfort to our officers as they perform their daily – and often dangerous – duties.”

“I know that people both inside and outside City government are upset with this ending of a tradition,” she added. “As a person of faith, I understand and respect the passion that people feel for this issue. ”

The move is in a response to a letter by the leftist anti-Christian group, Freedom From Religion Foundation, who demanded the plaque be taken down due to alleged First Amendment violations.

The Knoxville News Sentinel obtained a copy of the letter– sent February 23 via email.

These 48 Republican Senators Voted For A Clean Obamacare Repeal In 2015

Two Republicans senators who voted to repeal Obamacare in 2015 now say they will not support a similar bill by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Forty-eight current Republican senators supported the 2015 Obamacare repeal bill, including Sens. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia. Now Murkowski and Moore Capito oppose the McConnell measure. Republican Maine Sen. Susan Collins has also said she will vote “no,” which is the same position she had in 2015.

The Trump administration backed Obamacare repeal-and-replace legislation stalled Monday as a total of four Republican senators said they wouldn’t support the bill. The GOP currently holds 52 seats in the Senate.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said in a statement Monday night that the Senate would take a similar approach to the 2015 repeal bill that made it to President Obama’s desk.

“So, in the coming, days the Senate will vote to take up the House bill with the first amendment in order being what a majority of the Senate has already supported in 2015 and that was vetoed by then-President Obama: a repeal of Obamacare with a two-year delay to provide for a stable transition period to a patient-centered health care system that gives Americans access to quality, affordable care.”

Republicans Rand Paul and Mike Lee both opposed the recent Obamacare repeal-and-replace legislation, but backed the 2015 bill.

Here is the list of 48 current GOP senators who voted yes in 2015.

‘Skinny Repeal’ Faces Uphill Battle

Posted By Juliegrace Brufke On 12:17 AM 07/27/2017 In | No Comments

In the wake of the clean Obamacare repeal failing in the Senate Wednesday, GOP lawmakers are rumored to be considering a “skinny repeal,” aimed at abolishing a handful of key Obamacare provisions.

The measure would likely eliminate the individual and employer mandates and roll back the medical device tax without delving into changes to the Affordable Care Act’s regulations or Medicaid expansion.

While proponents of the idea argue the limited legislation could be an effective way to bridge the divide in the conference, a number of Republican senators said they are unsure whether they can support the bill as the text has yet to be written.

“Don’t know yet. I want to know if my amendment to block grant can –  is it conference-able? Will it survive reconciliation?” South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham told reporters. “It’s just a vehicle to get into conference and then we make a broader solution.”

“We don’t know what skinny repeal would be. There was an awful lot of talk at lunch today about what we –  you know, how much can we all agree on? How much can we actually pass? Send it to a conference,” Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson told reporters Wednesday. “And I think that’s the right conversation we should be having. … You concentrate on the areas of agreement.”

Graham noted the bill would not solve a large number of problems in the health care industry.

“The skinny plan is not a replacement of Obamacare. Would it be better than Obamacare? Yeah. But that’s not the goal,” he said. “The goal is to replace Obamacare. The skinny plan is not a replacement.”

According to Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn, the lower chamber could pass the scaled-back legislation without conferencing on the measure.

“There could be an informal conference,” Cornyn said, according to The Huffington Post. “The House could take up the Senate bill and pass that, or they could amend it and send it back.”

Rosie O’Donnell sparks outrage with Trump-killing game

William Cummings, USA TODAY Published 8:02 p.m. ET July 18, 2017 | Updated 8:47 a.m. ET July 19, 2017

Actress Rosie O’Donnell certainly knows how to push conservatives’ buttons. And now she is drawing their ire by pushing her own button: one that makes President Trump jump off a cliff.

“Push Trump Off A Cliff Again,” O’Donnell tweeted Saturday in an apparent play on Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan. The tweet links to a game in which the player can, as O’Donnell says, make the president jump off a cliff, again and again.

Conservatives expressed outrage as O’Donnell’s weekend tweet came to their attention.

Sean Hannity’s blogreferred to the game as “gross” and “sick.”

“Sadly, violence has become an acceptable form of dissent for liberals these days,” said a post on Young Conservatives.

British Government Hospitals To Bar Smokers & Overweight Patients From Surgery, Due To Budget Constraints

Could we see this happen here in this country??

If you’ve been concerned about the fate of veterans’ health care in the U.S., look to its cousin across the pond. A subsidiary of the government-run British National Health Service has decided to bar obese patients and smokers from undgergoing hip and knee operations. “I think we are going to see more and more decisions like this,” said Chris Hopson, the head of NHS Providers told The Telegraph. “It’s the only way providers are going to be able to balance their books.”

The British NHS and the U.S. VA are cousins

The British National Health Service and the U.S. Veterans Health Administration are two of the last remaining socialized health care systems in the world. That is to say, both systems have not only single-payer, government-run health insurance-the government also owns the hospitals and employs the doctors.

When government has that dominant of a role, it has no choice but to prioritize how to spend the money. In May, NHS England disclosed that its health care providers-hospitals, clinics, doctors and the like-had spent £2.45 billion ($3.26 billion) more than they had been allocated.

In North Yorkshire, England, hospital leaders have decided to cut back by denying hip and knee surgeries to smokers who refuse to quit, and those with Body Mass Indices above 30. (If you’re 5’10”, a BMI of 30 is 209 pounds; if you’re 5’5″, it’s 180 pounds.)

“Major surgery poses much higher risks for severely overweight patients who smoke,” said an NHS England spokesman. “So local [providers] are entirely right to ensure these patients first get support to lose weight and try and stop smoking before their hip or knee operation.” The change “saves the NHS and taxpayers millions of pounds.”

The NHS’ longstanding problems

The NHS has, for decades, endured problems that will remind many of the VA’s waiting list scandal:
